FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Compass Center announces the return of a playful and impactful fundraising events – the 0.5K: South Dakota’s Laziest Race – taking place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars (3000 W. 57th Street, Sioux Falls). Registration is now open but spots are limited, so early sign-up is encouraged to secure participation in this unforgettable event.
Known as “South Dakota’s Laziest Race,” this 0.5K event spoofs traditional runs and celebrates community participation in a fun, inclusive way. The “race” spans just 1/3 of a mile and is designed for participants of all ages and abilities. Whether walking, strolling, or simply showing up in support, attendees will contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a relaxed and entertaining experience.
The event is structured in three light-hearted segments:
- Launchpad: A pre-race warm-up area featuring snacks, stretching, and refreshments (including beer or root beer).
- The “Race”: A short, leisurely course completed at any pace.
- Recovery Lounge: A celebratory cool-down space with a food truck, drinks, and laid-back post-race relaxation.
A Kids Zone will also be available, offering activities for younger participants.
All proceeds benefit The Compass Center, a nonprofit organization providing essential services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence. The funds raised will directly support crisis counseling, advocacy, prevention education, and healing resources.
“South Dakota’s Laziest Race may not require much physical endurance, but it represents a powerful step toward healing and change,” said Sydney Bartunek, Chief Development & Communication Officer at The Compass Center. “Every stride in this event symbolizes the strength of survivors and the support of a community that believes in them.”
The event not only celebrates the strides made by participants but also pays tribute to the resilience of survivors. Each step – whether taken with determination or laughter – serves as a symbol of hope and solidarity.
