Three Sioux Falls Healing Organizations Unite as “Solace” – Region’s First Integrated Healing Agency

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Compass Center, Family Services Inc., and Move to Heal today officially announced their consolidation under a new unified identity: Solace. The merger creates the region’s first fully integrated healing agency, combining crisis intervention, clinical therapy, and trauma-informed somatic approaches under one coordinated system.

The new organization was unveiled this evening at Cultivating Courage, a celebration marking the historic consolidation of three organizations that have collectively served the Sioux Falls community for more than 120 years.

“Solace represents comfort and consolation in a time of stress – a safe harbor and steady presence,” said Chris Kappen, Solace Board President. “This consolidation addresses a critical gap in how our community responds to those seeking support. Rather than navigating multiple organizations, individuals and families will now access coordinated care from crisis through recovery.”

The Solace Brand Identity

The name “Solace” was carefully chosen to convey the organization’s promise of safety, trust, presence, and whole-person healing while communicating strength and compassion.

To provide immediate clarity about services, the Solace brand includes modifiers that will appear alongside the logomark:

  • Solace Crisis Care – Immediate intervention for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and child abuse
  • Solace Therapy Center – Clinical mental health services for all ages
  • Solace Healing Arts – Trauma-informed body-based approaches for youth impacted by adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)

Comprehensive Integration

The consolidation brings together complementary services:

  • Crisis Care (formerly The Compass Center): Specialized crisis intervention, 24/7 advocacy services, crisis counseling, and immediate support for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and relationship trauma
  • Therapy Center (formerly Family Services Inc.): Clinical therapy services for children, youth, and families, including comprehensive mental health treatment and Employee Assistance Programs
  • Healing Arts (formerly Move to Heal): Innovative trauma-informed programs utilizing trauma-sensitive yoga, dance movement, and creative expression for youth navigating trauma

By the Numbers:

Solace will serve approximately:

  • Over 1,000 individuals annually through crisis intervention and advocacy services
  • Nearly 900 clients annually through clinical therapy services
  • Nearly 100 youth through trauma-informed Healing Arts programs
  • Hundreds more through community performances and prevention education

Mission & Vision

Mission: We empower people to navigate their unique journeys toward emotional well-being, resilience, and hope.

Vision: At Solace, healing begins the moment you walk in, and every journey is honored with expert care, authentic connection, and hope for a brighter future.

Why Integration Matters

The consolidation eliminates barriers between services, creating seamless care pathways. Someone seeking support can now access immediate crisis intervention, ongoing therapeutic services, and somatic healing approaches without navigating separate systems or repeating their story multiple times.

“Every person’s path to healing is different, which is why we need multiple ways to support them,” said Terra Vennard, Solace Board Member. “This integration allows us to address the whole person – mind, body, and spirit – with coordinated expertise across all stages of recovery.”

Community Impact

The integration strengthens Sioux Falls’ infrastructure for addressing crisis intervention and mental health needs across the lifespan. By coordinating services that previously operated independently, Solace can provide more comprehensive, efficient care while reducing barriers for those seeking help.

Maintaining Services

All existing programs and services continue uninterrupted during the transition. The consolidation expands rather than reduces available services, with enhanced coordination between programs. The organization operates from its new location at 2210 S Brown Place, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.

Leadership Structure

Solace operates under a consolidated board of directors and integrated leadership team, combining decades of expertise in crisis response, clinical therapy, and innovative healing modalities.

Brand Development

The Solace brand identity was developed in partnership with Epicosity, a Sioux Falls-based creative agency, through an extensive discovery and strategy process involving staff, board members, and community stakeholders.

Community Support

brought together community leaders, supporters, and partners. The evening featured the unveiling of the new identity, remarks from organizational leadership, and live performances by Good Night Theatre (Rachael and Steve Payne) and Dueling Duo. The celebration created space for the community to witness this historic transformation while enjoying an evening of connection and purpose.

Looking Ahead

With the consolidation complete, Solace will focus on integrating operations, refining service coordination, and expanding its reach to serve more individuals and families seeking support.

“This is about creating a place of comfort and strength for people seeking support,” said Anne Rieck McFarland, Interim Executive Director. “Healing begins the moment someone walks through our doors, and we’re building something that honors every journey with expert care and authentic connection.”
